The Cheelcroft homes, clustered in a stylish section of Hohokus, are sought after for their charming designs which replicate historic English manor country homes.
One of these Homeowners retained Morpurgo Architects to assist them in expanding and updating their home. They requested an open floor plan that provides an easy flow through the living spaces on the first floor, allowing visibility between the rooms and sunlit spaces throughout. The new open floor plan develops multiple connections to the outdoor spaces, patios and pergola.
Morpurgo Architects designed an expanded kitchen, incorporating a cozy circular breakfast nook. We opened the new kitchen to the dining room, creating an area for the family to congregate.
The original plan of the house required us to create a visual balance for the front facade. By expanding the first floor plan to include a Powder Room, we enhanced the street side elevation. And, by adding a portico over the entrance, which also serves as protection from the elements, we were able to achieve a harmonious design.
Our firm collaborated with the Homeowner and Interior Decorator Laura Loew of Laura Loew Interiors to reinvigorate this traditional colonial, aesthetically and functionally. It is now a favored gathering place for a modern family.
