Morpurgo Architects expanded the back of the house to take advantage of the picturesque surroundings from as many living areas that could be accommodated along the rear perimeter of our clients’ home.
We planned an entering sequence through the front French doors in the entry, where we created a Cathedral ceiling. A Baroque clerestory window brings light into the space, illuminating the Living and Dining Rooms on either side. When the doors are open, the entire landscaped property seems to burst through the house.
As you continue, modulating ceiling heights lead to the coffered-ceiling Family Room, with large picture windows that overlook a spectacular setting. The adjacent Kitchen is defined by a large curved ceiling and a South-facing dormer window that anchor the breakfast table. Planned as the center of the house, the Kitchen provides easy access to all other areas of the home, including the Master Bedroom and Sitting Room that were situated to capture the natural beauty of the surroundings.
