To meet the COAH (Council of Affordable Housing) requirements, the Borough of Montvale asked Morpurgo Architects to renovate and expand their 1910 historic school for Senior Housing. Our proposed design for a glass-enclosed atrium would link the two-story existing school with a three-story apartment complex, while retaining the historic structure intact.
By combining these buildings into a cohesive whole, we would create dynamic spaces of diverse heights that would provide the residents with varying views from within their multi-level community.
Conservation of the Borough’s historic treasures is paramount to the municipality. In providing for the continuous use of one of Bergen County’s oldest and most beautiful historic landmarks, Morpurgo Architects would partner with the Borough of Montvale to preserve the unique features that give their community its distinctive character.
