The Homeowners of this beautiful center hall colonial in the historic section of South Orange retained Morpurgo Architects to design an addition that would include a Family Room with a Kitchen, incorporate the existing Living Room, and create open spaces with a continuous flow throughout the first floor.
An enclosed porch across the rear of the house prevented access to the backyard. We resolved this challenge by providing access to their large yard through a pair of French doors. We also integrated in the new space a rear Entry with Mud Room, Laundry Room, Office, and Bathroom.
The ceiling configuration became one of the most interesting aspects of our Transformation. In the Family Room, rising on an angle over the large kitchen center island, several intersecting ceiling planes come together, square in plan, adding visual interest and soaring space.
The design of the Kitchen and its layout speak volumes of efficiency, and the selection of the color palette and materials makes the Kitchen the centerpiece of the home.
