It started with a “Pinch Point.” In our clients’ Kitchen, it was impossible to navigate between the tight space where the island and the refrigerator met, causing a bottleneck and preventing an easy flow to other areas of the house.
Morpurgo Architects resolved this problem by creating an addition with a wide interior circulation spine that leads to the backyard. This internal corridor, linking the essential functional elements, produced an open plan, joining the Kitchen, the Family Room, and the Living Room.
We relocated the Den, adding French doors opening to a spacious deck that extends to the breakfast area, adjacent to the Kitchen. We incorporated in the new space beyond the Den the service-related functions, including the Mud Room, Laundry, and Storage Facilities.
Our expansion facilitated the reconfiguration and renovation of the second floor Master Bathroom as well as other Bathrooms.
The basement was extensively enlarged and renovated to provide an Entertainment space that includes an Exercise area, a Playroom with a Wet Bar, and ancillary facilities.
